Privacy Policy

Solem is operated by TNEP ("we," "us," or "our"). We operate the solem.ai website and the Solem platform (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and payment information.
  • Knowledge base content. Articles, URLs, documents, notes, and other content you save to your Solem knowledge base.
  • Agent-submitted content. Content saved by AI agents you have authorized to write to your knowledge base via MCP server or CLI.
  • Communications. Messages you send to us, including support requests and feedback.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data. Pages visited, features used, search queries within your knowledge base, and interaction patterns.
  • Device information. Browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and IP address.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics and PostHog to understand how people use the Service. These tools collect anonymized usage data.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • To process your transactions and manage your account, including via Stripe (our payment processor).
  • To index and make your saved content searchable via full-text search.
  • To enable AI agent access to your knowledge base when you authorize it via MCP.
  • To send you service-related communications (account confirmations, security alerts, product updates).
  • To respond to your inquiries and support requests.
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues and abuse.

3. Your Knowledge Base Data

Your knowledge base is yours. We do not sell, license, or share your saved content with third parties. We do not use your content to train AI models. Your content is processed solely to provide the Service (indexing, search, and retrieval).

When you authorize an AI agent to access your knowledge base (via the MCP server using a Solem-issued API key), the relevant content is transmitted to that agent at request time. You control which agents have access and can revoke any API key at any time from Settings.

Third-party AI providers

In-app AI chat is powered by Google's Gemini Flash Lite model. When you use AI chat, your query and the relevant excerpts of your saved content are sent to Google for inference; Google processes the data under their API terms and does not retain it for training. When you connect Solem to your own AI agent (e.g. Claude Desktop, Cursor) via MCP, content is transmitted to that agent's provider under your agreement with them — Solem is not in the data path beyond authentication and retrieval.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:

  • Service providers. Third parties that help us operate the Service. These include: Stripe (payment processing — receives your name, email, and payment method when you subscribe), Supabase (database + authentication hosting), Railway (application hosting), Google Cloud / Gemini API (AI inference for in-app chat), Resend (transactional email), Google Analytics and PostHog (product analytics). All providers are bound by their own privacy commitments and process data under data-processing agreements where applicable.
  • Legal requirements. When required by law, regulation, or legal process.
  • Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

5. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and knowledge base content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your data within 30 days. Some information may be retained in backups for up to 90 days.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
  • Export your knowledge base content at any time.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

8. International Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers, including standard contractual clauses where required by applicable law.

9. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and functional cookies for analytics (Google Analytics, PostHog). You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect your experience.

10. Children

The Service is not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 16, we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
